Dinner Rolls

This recipe utilises a bread machine to make the dough. It could be just as easily converted to use a heavy duty mixer or by hand.

Dinner Rolls

Course bread
Prep Time 2 hours 35 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Resting 30 minutes
Total Time 3 hours 25 minutes
Servings 12 Rolls


  • 7 g Yeast instant – (1/4 oz)
  • 3 cups Bread flour
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 Egg lightly beaten
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 80 g Butter softened, cubed


  • Add all ingredients in order to bread pan
  • Set machine to basic dough cycle
  • When cycle completed divide dough into 12 portions and roll into balls
  • Place rolls on baking sheets allowing space for further rising between them
  • Leave in warm place until double in size, approximately 30 minutes
  • Set oven to 220°C, brush tops lightly with milk or water
  • Bake for 15 – 20 minutes or until further risen and golden brown
  • Cool on wire rack


Tip: Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if desired.
