One of the most amazing foods is sourdough bread. I find the commercial purchased breads lack that real sourdough flavour. They are often made using commercial yeast with a wave of either faux sourdough starter or even would you believe flavouring.
Sourdough is made by creating a wild starter. Once you have created the “mother” you will have genuine sourdough starter for life and amazing sourdough bread.

Method
Day One
- Add 3/4 cup flour to a glass bowl
- Mix in 1/2 cup water
- Cover with tea-towel and leave 24 hours at room temperature
Day Two – Seven
- Discard 1/2 the mix
- Add 1/2 cup flour to a glass bowl
- Mix in 1/4 cup water
- Cover with tea-towel and leave 24 hours at room temperature
- Repeat for each of the days
- Each day you should see bubbles on the top of the mixture
- From here on in you can casually feed your “mother” I add a 1/4 cup of flour and a splash of water once a week if in the refridgerator.
- The mix should smell a bit like a yeasty beer
